The East African Civil Society Organizations Forum (EACSOF) is a registered regional non-governmental organization based in Tanzania, with country chapters in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Uganda. EACSOF’s primary focus is to enhance civil society engagement in the East African Community (EAC) integration process. The organization employs various strategies, including information sharing, networking, and capacity building for civil society organizations (CSOs), along with citizen engagement on EAC integration issues.
EACSOF role aligns with the provisions of the EAC Treaty. Article 1 of the Treaty defines civil society, and EACSOF’s activities are consistent with this definition. Article 7 outlines operational principles, emphasizing people- and market-driven cooperation. Article 128 encourages Partner States to create an enabling environment for the private sector and civil society. Notably, EACSOF serves as the official CSO representative in the EAC Dialogue Framework, a tripartite arrangement involving CSOs, private sector organizations (PSOs), and the EAC. This underscores EACSOF’s position as a key participant in facilitating consultations among diverse stakeholders within the East African integration process.
