EACSOF Tanzania Chapter with support from the Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) has been undertaking key initiatives to advance EAC regional integration specifically: Development of the East Africa Integration Communication and Advocacy strategy, that guides CSOs to develop key advocacy messages on priority issues related to East Africa and broadcast of Radio programs aiming to raise awareness on available opportunities in EAC such as infrastructure, social services, role of EAC leaders in making informed decisions, good governance and democracy. FCS in collaboration with the EACSOF Tanzania Chapter also conducted a two day dialogue attended by seven members of Parliament from the Tanzania National Assembly and 40 CSO members. A three persons committee comprising of one member from MEAC, EACSOF and one Member of Parliament was formed to take different priority issues to the Tanzania Parliament and in the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).
EACSOF Tanzania chapter has been seeking for an opportunity to create a framework where the EALA representatives from Tanzania engage with the Tanzanian CSOs to enable a direct engagement with the EALA Assembly so as to forward various recommendations on key priority issues. In this regard, EACSOF Tanzania chapter involved Tanzania members of Parliaments on EAC Integration Issues at the Dodoma Hotel in Tanzania, on 10th November 2016.
The meeting recommended EACSOF to build capacity for Tanzanian Parliamentarians on the EAC specifically how EAC can enhance development to the local citizens of Tanzania in their respective constituencies. In addition, EACSOF was tasked to share different priority policy issues for the attention of Tanzanian Parliamentarians and the EAC.
